Lalit Modi under Income Tax department’s scanner

Lalit Modi is in fresh trouble as he is now made to respond to the queries from the Income Tax department over the rights the IPL sold. These rights included big-ticket TV deals and advertising and hospitality rights in stadia.

He also is being asked to provide the details of the bidding of the teams on two occasions and he is now forced to tell about the amount paid and bank guarantees given. The details about failed bidders also are being demanded by the department.
Modi is under probe from many government law enforcement agencies. The suspended Indian Premier League chairman is alleged to have made many irregularities while running he league. Investigation over misuse of the power such as traveling only in luxury cars and using plush Four Season hotel as an IPL office and entertaining guests are few of the irregularities that he has been allegedly involved in.
The first auction two years ago saw eight successful bidders which are now the franchise of the IPL and there were unsuccessful bidders like Deutsche Bank, Emerald Telecom, DLF and Sahara India. In this year, Pune and Kochi were the additional teams sold and this also resulted in subsequent controversy.
