Mumbai: Bollywood star Salman Khan says he might quit the microblogging site Twitter following the controversy over his remarks on the November 26, 2008 terror attacks in Mumbai.
"Looks like I mite hv to get off Twitter. Don't want to but wat to do? I think I messed up, so sorry guys, sorry bolne mein koi sharm nahin," Slaman tweeted.
Salman had told a Pakistani channel that the Mumbai attacks got so much attention because the victims were rich even as his new release 'Dabangg' may be breaking records at the box office.
The actor reportedly said in an interview that the 26/11 terrorist attacks on Mumbai were hyped because the elite were targeted and also stated that the Pakistani government could not be held responsible for the attacks.
"Too much hype has been created around the 26/11 attacks because elite people were targeted. Attacks have happened in trains and small towns too, but no one talked about it so much. Everybody took this up because the Taj and the Oberoi hotels were involved. The attacks happened because our security failed. Everybody knows that the Pakistan government was not behind it and it was a terrorist attack," Salman told the channel.
Salman's comments triggered uproar with various parties including the BJP and the Shiv Sena demanding an apology from the actor.
He offered clarifications on the flaring controversy.
"At this festive time of Eid and Ganesh utsav, it has been twisted around. The way it is coming across on TV, it sounds insensitive. I was just saying that life is equal, some attacks get more media coverage than the others. Why is that? Every human life is as important and any act of terrorism in any part of the world is unpardonable. A terrorist has no nationality, no religion, no guts. I always have and always will have faith in our intelligence, our armed forces and our police. If I have hurt anybody's sentiments, I am very, very sorry," he said.
Salman's father and famous film scriptwriter Salim Khan, too, offered to apologise on the actor's behalf.
"Salman didn’t mean anything wrong, but I'm apologising on his behalf," said Salim.
The actor also tweeted on his remarks after the protests.
"Next time mein apnne sub interview sub khud bhi record karoonga, kya bolte ho ? Takeh yeh sub controversies nahi ho (From now on I will record my interviews so that there is no controversy)," he tweeted.
Either way with ‘Dabangg’ just having hit screens, any publicity is good publicity.
